Wedding Trends for 2020

Do it your way- this year we throw out the rule book!

Personalization and celebrating what’s special about your relationship are the big wedding trends for 2020.  Brides and grooms are throwing out the rule book and doing it their way! Not feeling tied to tradition, brides are changing everything from floras to cakes to dress choices according to Hana Suessenguth , Wedding planner at Inn by the Sea.

“It’s all about personalization and feeling comfortable with choices,” says Hana. “Brides are choosing simple, relaxed hair styles and hassle-free dresses- and the dresses aren’t necessarily white!  Brides maids are wearing un-matched gowns but in complimentary colors, so everyone can be comfortable with their own sense of style. It’s not that tradition is out- but changing it up to fit the couple’s sensibilities is definitely in.”

Here are a few trends that will be making the rounds this wedding season:

Outdoor weddings on the rise:

Who can resist an ocean view as backdrop for your ceremony? More couples are opting for outdoor weddings rather than in a traditional ball room. Intimate weddings, with fewer guests are in, suggesting the wedding day experience itself is really a very personal consideration for couples.

 Florals:

Florals are popping up everywhere- edible florals in cocktails and on menus. But living plants are being used where florals used to rule- as decoration and center pieces. Greens are a great backdrop, work with almost any color scheme and add a relaxed feel to tables.

Dogs in the ceremony:

Dogs are appearing more and more in starring roles as ring bearers or flower pups. They are often important to the couple and so why wouldn’t they be included in the ceremony? Plus they add a relaxed element and a little whimsy to the day.

Intimate Ceremonies- the planned elopement:

Planning to elope seems like a contradiction in terms, but none the less, planning small intimate ceremonies, often as destination weddings, with 2 to 12 guests is growing in popularity.

Cheers!

Couples are sharing individual preferences by having a mixologist at the bar creating unique celebratory cocktails tailored specifically to their tastes.

Sustainability

Couples are choosing to reduce their carbon footprint with everything from electronic invitations to vegan meals to charitable donations for guests in lieu of favors.

But at the end of the day it is all about celebrating your love for each other- so definitely do it your way!
