Annual Giving Tree and School Books for a Booking at Inn by the Sea

From Thanksgiving through New Year’s an annual Giving Tree graces the fireplace lounge at Inn by the Sea, decorated with cheery handmade ornaments created by school children.  Inn guests, community members and Inn staff are invited to generously trade the student ornaments for new, warm articles of clothing including hats, mittens, scarves, socks, and Chap Stick packs.  The piles of warm clothes collected each year have been distributed to food banks, schools and Preble Street Chapel as needed throughput the winter by Project G.R.A.C.E.  (Granting Resources and Assistance through Community Effort)

In appreciation for the generous donations,  Inn by the Sea gives a $20 property certificate to  donors, good for  food, beverage or SPA services at the Inn (from Jan 2 through June 15) as a thank you for the kind gifts of new clothing  or a donation to the Inn’s  Books for a Booking program.

The Inn also supports a culture of reading in elementary and middle school students by purchasing new books that inspire confidence, open doors to learning and stimulate imagination through their Books for a Booking program. Each year the Inn purchases books from school librarian wish lists, one for every December hotel reservation.

“We are delighted to be working with several local school librarians to ensure the books we purchase excite middle and elementary students and encourage a lifelong connection to information, understanding and discovery,†stated Michael Briggs, Inn by the Sea’s General Manager. “The program is simple- for each room booked for a December stay, Inn by the Sea purchases a book from participating schools’  “wish lists.†Guests and community may also get involved by purchasing one of the handmade student book marks on the Giving Tree for $10.â€
