Giving Tree, School Books for a Booking, Feeding Maine Kids at Inn by the Sea
Giving Tree
From Thanksgiving through New Year’s, Inn by the Sea continues its annual Giving Tree tradition. The tree, decorated with handmade paper ornaments crafted by local schoolchildren, invites guests, community members, and Inn staff to participate in a season of giving.
In exchange for a child’s ornament, donors are encouraged to contribute new, warm clothing such as hats, mittens, scarves, socks, children’s apparel, or Chap Stick packs. Each year, these generous donations are distributed throughout the winter by Project G.R.A.C.E. (Granting Resources and Assistance through Community Effort) to local food banks, schools, and Preble Street Chapel.
As a token of gratitude, the Inn offers a $20 property certificate redeemable for food, beverages, or spa services for each donation of new clothing or participation in the Inn’s Books for a Booking program. (PR Certificates are valid from January 2 through June 10.)
Books for a Booking
Inn by the Sea also promotes literacy through its Books for a Booking initiative, which supports a love of reading among local students from elementary through high school. For every room reserved for a December stay, the Inn purchases a new book from the wish lists of partnering school librarians. These books are carefully selected to inspire imagination, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning.
“We are delighted to collaborate with local school librarians to choose books that excite and engage students,” said Nick Shumate, General Manager of Inn by the Sea. “Our goal is to help nurture a lifelong connection to information, understanding, and discovery.”
Guests and community members can also take part by purchasing one of the handmade student bookmarks for $10. Each purchase earns a $20 property gift certificate as a thank-you for supporting local schools and young readers.
