Inn with Wildlife
Luxury comes naturally at Inn by the Sea with a unique approach to hospitality inspired by our natural coastal surroundings. The Inn is a proud member of Beyond Green, a small curated collection of the most sustainable hotels and lodges on the planet located in 18 different countries.
We strive to blend luxury, service, and an exceptional guest stay with support for our community and environmental preservation, minimizing the impact of hotel operations with our eco-friendly initiatives and an appreciation of all things local. Fun, whimsical and educational programs connect visitors to the local community and the Inn's natural coastal environment.
Delectable dining in Sea Glass restaurant celebrates Maine fare, vegan and vegetarian options, and underutilized and responsibly harvested seafood fresh from the Gulf of Maine. Guests are surrounded by indigenous gardens that provide food and habitat for wildlife. The Inn collaborates with Crescent Beach State Park to remove non- native plants and replace them with indigenous species to support a healthy coastal eco system on public land. In summer, guests enjoy adorable "Scapegoats" taking down invasive knotweed in the park.
Room amenities are natural and support Bee research. Amenities are offered to guests in pumps , and our fresh, unfiltered water from Lake Sebago is provided in reusable glass bottles, saving over 3,000 plastic bottles every month from landfill. Our sheet and towel program helps protect endangered butterflies and funded habitat restoration for the endangered New England Cottontail rabbit.
We safeguard our earth's resources through energy and water conservation, and 100% of the Inn's electricity is clean and renewable, sourced from a Maine solar farm. We recycle and compost 1000 pounds of yard and food waste every month, and use post-consumer paper products. Our guests are welcome to use the complimentary 7 EV charging stations available on property.
For our recreational amenities, our cardio room utilizes recycled rubber floors while our outdoor pool is heated with solar panels. The SPA was designed with recycled sheet rock walls and recycled cork flooring. The Inn saves energy with air to air heat exchangers and water with dual flush toilets. The SPA addition was built to LEED specification for a healthy environment targeted at wellness, and received a LEED silver certification.
We recognize the value of our community by supporting local schools by purchasing books from their library wish lists and support regional charities and organizations that preserve the natural environment. Being dog welcoming, the Inn collaborates with the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland and fosters adoptable rescue dogs on property. 176 dogs to date have been adopted after spending time at the Inn, saving lives. We celebrate and share the soul of our location while working with local producers, growers, fishermen and vendors who share our appreciation for all things Maine.
